Filigree Headband

I made this for an order. The customer sent me this picture:
I don't look for patterns so I got an idea of how to work it and started.

This is what I ended up with:
I think I did pretty well!!

Here is the pattern:

Use an F hook and Aran weight yarn. I used Caron simply soft.

1: Ch 3, 8 hdc 3rd ch from hook, sl st to first hdc to join

2: ch 1, 2 sc same st, 2 sc each of next 7 sts, sl st to first sc to join

Now working rows

3: *ch 3, sl st next st *, repeat * 2 more times, turn

4: *ch 3, sc in next ch 3 sp*, repeat to end, turn

5-13: repeat row 3

14: ch 3, sc same st, * ch 3, sc in next ch 3 sp *, repeat * to end

15: * ch 3, sc next ch 3 sp *, repeat * to end, turn

16: repeat row 15

17: repeat 14

18-19: repeat row 15

20: repeat row 14

21-22: repeat 15

23: repeat row 14

24-51: repeat row 15 (should have 8 ch3 spaces in each row now)

52: (decrease row) ch 3, sk first ch 3 sp and sc in next ch 3 sp, ch 3-sc next ch 3 sp to end, turn

53-54: repeat 15

55: repeat row 51 (decrease)

56: repeat row 15

57: repeat row 51 (decrease)

58-59: repeat row 15

60: repeat row 51 (decrease) you should now have 4 ch3 spaces now

61-65: repeat row 15

Now working around entire headband, do not break yarn

Round 1: ch 1, sc same st, sc each of next 8 sts, {now working around edge of headband} 1 sc in each sc and 2 sc in each ch 3 sp along side, when you reach the beginning sc each of 8 sts around edge of circle, rotate and work along bottom edge of headband still working 1 sc in each sc and 2 sc in each ch 3 space, sl st to 1st sc to join

Round 2: ch 1, sc same st, sc in each of next 8 sts, * sk 2, 5 dc next st, sk 2, sc next st *, repeat * along top of headband (15 shells), sc in each of next 8 sts, repeat * 15 times along bottom edge of headband, sl st to 1st sc to join.

Fasten off

Flower

Round 1: Ch 4, sc in 4th ch from hook, *ch 3, sc in same stitch *, repeat 5 times so that you have 6 ch 3 spaces

Round 2: in each ch 3 sp, (sl st, 4 hdc) 6 times, sl st to 1st sl st to join

Round 3: ch 1, turn and work WS, sc around post underneath first petal, *ch 3, sc around post of next petal *, repeat * for each petal

Round 4: turn and work RS, in each ch 3 sp work (sl st, 6 hdc), sl st to 1st sl to to join

Round 5: turn and work WS, ch 1, sc around post under petal from previous round, ch 4, * sc around post of next petal *, repeat * for each petal, sl st to first sc to join

Round 6: turn and work RS, in each petal (sl st, 10 hdc), repeat for each petal, sl st to first sl st to join

Leave long tail for sewing.

Attach button and sew on flower where desired.

Use the ch 3 spaces to fasten button. Make sure your button fits first!!

If you need clarification on anything please contact me. I know it's a rudimentary pattern with no stitch counts. After the holidays I will work to clean it up. Again, contact me of you need help.

Happy hooking!!

  1. Really pretty! I like the sheen of the yarn you used. It gives it a little more pizazz than just an ordinary wooly type yarn. Thanks for the pattern. I can't wait to start one.

  2. Hello I'm stuck on row 5. Does each time I repeat add a ch 3 space to each side ? I think I'm doing this wrong

  3. I just saw a couple errors in the directions. I'll fix that today. You should be adding a ch 3 space at the beginning of each increase row, not at the end. Rows 14-23 are increase rows. Does that help?

  5. I don't get the increase on rows 14-23, If I have 3 "loops" to begin with and in the comment above you say increase on each row - that makes 13 loops at row 23 and not 8...

If I follow the directions you mention row 14 as the "increase row" - and yout repeat row 14 a total of 4 times that makes 7 loops in the end...

Regarding your question, row 14 is an increase row and row 15 is not. By repeating row 14 and 15 alternatively, you only increase 5 times resulting in the 8 ch 3 spaces. You will not increase every row as stated in the pattern, you repeat both rows 14 and 15 for rows 14-23. Apologies if that comment was confusing.

  6. I’m not sure Im understanding how to get rows of 8 ch 3 spaces starting in rows 14-23. Will this occur starting in row rows 24-51?
