A Sweet Little Crown

I am attempting to write more patterns. They take loads and loads of time. I'm getting there.  Ravelry, Etsy, and Facebook.

A Sweet Little Crown
by Regina S Graham

 Size: 3-10 year/19-20” head circumference

Adorn crown with desired bling, crystals, buttons, pearls, beads, etc.

Can be mod-podged or starched for added sturdiness.

 without frill edging

Materials:

F/3.75mm hook
Worsted Weight Yarn (I've used Red Heart with Love and Loops and Threads Impeccable)

Special stitches:

Cross “X” stitch: sk 1 st, dc in next st, dc in skipped st

Front post slip stitch (fpslst): insert hook into stitch/post from RS of work, continue to push hook through to opposite side of stitch/post so that hook is visible again, entire post should be on hook, yo, draw through stitch

***Sizing info: for each inch you want smaller, subtract 2 sts from foundation chain. Continue with pattern, ignoring stitch counts. Likewise, for each inch you would like to make larger, add 2 sts to foundation chain, ignore stitch counts.

Ch 80, sl st to first ch to form ring being careful not to twist. Alternatively, you can to a foundationless single crochet for 80 sts.

Worked in the round.

Rnd 1: ch 1, sc in same st, sc in each st around, sl st to top of ch 1 to join (80)

Rnd 2: ch 2, hdc in same st, hdc in each st around, sl st to top of ch 2 to join (80)

Rnd 3: ch 3, * (X-stitch) sk next st, dc in next st, dc in skipped st *, repeat * 39 times, 39th X is worked next to ch 3, sl st to top of ch 3 to join (80)

Rnd 4: ch 1, sc same st, * 5 dc in next sp working between the two X stitches from round 3, sc between the next two X stitches from round 3 *, repeat * 19 times, sl st to top of first sc, total of 20 shells (120) ***If you need to see what this round looks like, refer to photos below***

Rnd 5: sl st 2 times to middle dc of shell from round 4, * ch 4, sk 5 sts, sl st into next st *, repeat 19 times, sl st to 1st sl st to join (80)

Rnd 6: ch 1, sc in same st, * (hdc, dc, tc, [picot-ch 2, sl st into 2nd st from hook], tc, dc, hdc) all in ch 3 sp NOT working in stitches, sc in the sl st from round 5 that was placed in the middle of round 4 shell, 5 dc in next ch 3 sp NOT working in stitches, sc in next sc from round 5 *, repeat * 9 more times (you should have a total of 10 peaks and 10 shells)

If you have any adjustments to make, want to send me your stitch counts for different sizes, have pictures to share, etc., please send them to me! I will add your corrections. Also, I'm still pretty new to pattern writing. I don't claim to be perfect. Please let me know if you find errors. I'm happy to fix them. :)

  1. I am trying to make this crown for my niece for her newborn pics and I don't know what seems to be going wrong but when I get to row 4 it doesn't seem to sit right. The best way to describe it is it doesn't sit upright like in your pic its almost like the sides are falling over almost laying in a flat circle. I followed the pattern and adjusted as stated at the beginning of the pattern. Not sure what i could be doing wrong
