Mod Formal

I'm working on an order for a baby girl's first birthday dress. Mom wanted this design.

I usually make newborn dresses so making a larger one always makes me nervous.

She also wanted a headband instead of the hat I had made.

This is what I came up with:
What do you think? I won't get to talk to her until tomorrow. It should fall around baby's knees.

I'm currently working on the diaper cover and shoes. I'll keep you posted!!

Filigree Headband

I made this for an order. The customer sent me this picture:
I don't look for patterns so I got an idea of how to work it and started.

This is what I ended up with:
I think I did pretty well!!

Here is the pattern:

Use an F hook and Aran weight yarn. I used Caron simply soft.

1: Ch 3, 8 hdc 3rd ch from hook, sl st to first hdc to join

2: ch 1, 2 sc same st, 2 sc each of next 7 sts, sl st to first sc to join

Now working rows

3: *ch 3, sl st next st *, repeat * 2 more times, turn

4: *ch 3, sc in next ch 3 sp*, repeat to end, turn

5-13: repeat row 3

14: ch 3, sc same st, * ch 3, sc in next ch 3 sp *, repeat * to end

15: * ch 3, sc next ch 3 sp *, repeat * to end, turn

16: repeat row 15

17: repeat 14

18-19: repeat row 15

20: repeat row 14

21-22: repeat 15

23: repeat row 14

24-51: repeat row 15 (should have 8 ch3 spaces in each row now)

52: (decrease row) ch 3, sk first ch 3 sp and sc in next ch 3 sp, ch 3-sc next ch 3 sp to end, turn

53-54: repeat 15

55: repeat row 51 (decrease)

56: repeat row 15

57: repeat row 51 (decrease)

58-59: repeat row 15

60: repeat row 51 (decrease) you should now have 4 ch3 spaces now

61-65: repeat row 15

Now working around entire headband, do not break yarn

Round 1: ch 1, sc same st, sc each of next 8 sts, {now working around edge of headband} 1 sc in each sc and 2 sc in each ch 3 sp along side, when you reach the beginning sc each of 8 sts around edge of circle, rotate and work along bottom edge of headband still working 1 sc in each sc and 2 sc in each ch 3 space, sl st to 1st sc to join

Round 2: ch 1, sc same st, sc in each of next 8 sts, * sk 2, 5 dc next st, sk 2, sc next st *, repeat * along top of headband (15 shells), sc in each of next 8 sts, repeat * 15 times along bottom edge of headband, sl st to 1st sc to join.

Fasten off

Flower

Round 1: Ch 4, sc in 4th ch from hook, *ch 3, sc in same stitch *, repeat 5 times so that you have 6 ch 3 spaces

Round 2: in each ch 3 sp, (sl st, 4 hdc) 6 times, sl st to 1st sl st to join

Round 3: ch 1, turn and work WS, sc around post underneath first petal, *ch 3, sc around post of next petal *, repeat * for each petal

Round 4: turn and work RS, in each ch 3 sp work (sl st, 6 hdc), sl st to 1st sl to to join

Round 5: turn and work WS, ch 1, sc around post under petal from previous round, ch 4, * sc around post of next petal *, repeat * for each petal, sl st to first sc to join

Round 6: turn and work RS, in each petal (sl st, 10 hdc), repeat for each petal, sl st to first sl st to join

Leave long tail for sewing.

Attach button and sew on flower where desired.

Use the ch 3 spaces to fasten button. Make sure your button fits first!!

If you need clarification on anything please contact me. I know it's a rudimentary pattern with no stitch counts. After the holidays I will work to clean it up. Again, contact me of you need help.

Happy hooking!!

Double Shell Headband

This seems to be a very popular headband look. Someone posted a picture of one and asked for help with the pattern. No one was able to find an exact pattern like it so I wrote my own. I don't provide stitch counts so if you keep track of those and would like to contribute them to the pattern, please send them to me!

use worsted weight and an F hook. I've made these with Red Heart Super Saver, RH with Love, Impeccable, and I Love This Yarn. Your tension will determine how it fits. Most people say it looks too small until they put it on. Using foundation single crochet to start will provide a significant amount of stretch.

Fsc 70, sl st to join

Round 1: ch 1, sc same st, sc each of next 9 sts, (sk 2, 5 dc next st, sk 2, sc next st), repeat  9 times, sc each of remaining sts, sl st to join in ch 1 (total of 9 shells)

Round 2: ch 1, sc same st, sc each of next 12 sts, (sk 2, 5 dc next st, sk 2, sc next st), repeat  8 times, sc each of remaining sts, sl st to ch 1 to join (total of 8 shells)

Round 3: ch 1, sc same st, sc each of next 14 sts, (sk 2, 5 dc next st, sk 2, sc next st), repeat 7 times, sc each of remaining sts, sl st to ch 1 to join (total of 7 shells)

Round 4: ch 1, sc same st, sc each of next 16 sts, (sk 2, 5 dc next st, sk 2, sc next st), repeat 6 times, sc each of remaining sts, sl st to ch 1 to join (total of 6 shells)

Break yarn. Join yarn at seam of fsc round. Repeat pattern. I leave off the 4th round but if you like it really wide you can keep it.

Crochet wig

I made this wig a few weeks ago.

I'm SUPER proud of it! There are a couple more things I can do to it, and I will at some point.

I wanted to make a totally unique headpiece to go with this costume I made:

Cool, huh? It's not for everybody, but those who "get it" will appreciate it.

It was the largest, most difficult project I've ever undertaken.

So, for some info on how I constructed the wig. I wanted a bouffant type upper, and struggled with figuring out how to do that without using pounds of yarn. What I came up with:

Two beanies. Large one on the bottom and smaller on top. Next time I'll try reversing this, but it worked okay.

Then, sew them together like you would a pillow, leaving a lip of the larger one on the bottom:

Now, stuff the front with poly fill.

Sew your pocket closed

Arrange your filling where you want the hair to be its fullest. I wanted the front.

Next, I used a washable marker to mark where I wanted the hair to part.
Then it was only a matter of sewing in te creases like you would with a stuffed animal.

When I had the shape I wanted, I began adding hair. That was an insane process that took a full day. Instead of braiding the ends, I would pull them through at he opposite end and chain them. I incorporated the chains throughout te hair do. Then I added some flowers to cover up a part I didn't feel like adding more hair to. :) Cheat.

The final product is pretty impressive.

I have a crochet tophat pattern (pictured above) in my Ravelry store. It's my idea of a perfect crochet top hat since all edges are defined and sharp, not rounded and sloppy.

I also made a HUGE mess.

If you try it, let me know how it goes! It's not for the faint of heart!!

A Sweet Little Crown

I am attempting to write more patterns. They take loads and loads of time. I'm getting there.  Ravelry, Etsy, and Facebook.

A Sweet Little Crown
by Regina S Graham

 Size: 3-10 year/19-20” head circumference

Adorn crown with desired bling, crystals, buttons, pearls, beads, etc.

Can be mod-podged or starched for added sturdiness.

 without frill edging

Materials:

F/3.75mm hook
Worsted Weight Yarn (I've used Red Heart with Love and Loops and Threads Impeccable)

Special stitches:

Cross “X” stitch: sk 1 st, dc in next st, dc in skipped st

Front post slip stitch (fpslst): insert hook into stitch/post from RS of work, continue to push hook through to opposite side of stitch/post so that hook is visible again, entire post should be on hook, yo, draw through stitch

***Sizing info: for each inch you want smaller, subtract 2 sts from foundation chain. Continue with pattern, ignoring stitch counts. Likewise, for each inch you would like to make larger, add 2 sts to foundation chain, ignore stitch counts.

Ch 80, sl st to first ch to form ring being careful not to twist. Alternatively, you can to a foundationless single crochet for 80 sts.

If you have any adjustments to make, want to send me your stitch counts for different sizes, have pictures to share, etc., please send them to me! I will add your corrections. Also, I'm still pretty new to pattern writing. I don't claim to be perfect. Please let me know if you find errors. I'm happy to fix them. :)
